Common Lock Types

Not sure what type of lock you've got?  Our handy guide below will help you identify your lock and enable us to give a better diagnosis of fault and more accurate quote when you call.

Euro Profile Cylinder.jpg

Euro Profile Cylinder

If you have a uPVC door then this is most likely the type of lock fitted but they are commonly found on all types of doors.  We recommend and fit anti-snap locks as standard for better security.

Multi Point Locking Mechanism.png

Multi Point Locking Mechanism

Commonly found on upvc and composite doors, these are normally operated by lifting the handle up before locking with the key.  They should be smooth to operate and never be forced as this could shorten their lifespan.

Rim Cylinder.jpg

Rim Cylinder

Often found on wooden doors and sometimes reffered to as a 'Yale' type lock.  They will usually operate a nightlatch on the other side of the door (see nightlatch below).

Nightlatch.jpg

Nightlatch

Normally found on wooden doors and again often referred to as a 'Yale' type lock.  If this is the only lock on your external door it is not giving a high enough level of security and you will need an additional deadlock fitted.  Some do conform to British Standard rating but still adviseable to have an additional deadlock for extra security and insurance compliance.

Deadlock.jpg

Mortice Deadlock

Often referred to as a 'Chubb' type lock, these usually have either 2, 3 or 5 levers inside offering different levels of security.  If fitted to an external door look out for the British Standard Kitemark engraved on the faceplate to ensure you have the highest level of security and comply with insurance requirements.

Sashlock.jpg

Mortice Sashlock

Basically the same as a deadlock but with the addition of a latch to keep the door closed.  These will usually have additional door handles fitted to operate the latch.
